The cat's out of the bag!

on June 21, 2013 - 9:30am

One of the reasons we love cats is their elusive nature and independence. However, I can’t imagine a cat owner who hasn’t wondered what their cat gets up to when they aren’t around or hasn’t been curious about their whereabouts during a prolonged outside expedition! No wonder the BBC recognised that we’d be hooked by their documentary ‘the secret lives of cats’, exploring a research project undertaken in a Surrey village which tracked the movements of its cats and used ‘cat cams’ to view the world from the feline perspective.

Neutering In Good Time

It may not seem like late spring to us, but for the cats of Cambridge, kitten season is well underway.  We are very much enjoying meeting lots of new feline bundles of joy.  One of my favourite aspects of my job is watching kittens growing up and becoming happy and healthy adults in loving homes.  I am always amazed how early kittens learn how best to manipulate their humans and how easily we are trained to do as we are told!

Of course not all kittens are lucky enough to end up with the right start and there are still far too many unwanted cats and kittens that need to find the right homes.

Mad as a March HAIR!

The crocuses are out and I am really noticing my increased energy levels that the lighter mornings and spring sunshine brings.  Cats are definitely venturing out again after their winter hibernation indoors and I have been seeing them getting into all kinds of scrapes in the last couple of weeks!

Day length is actually very important to cats, as in other animals, and triggers the release of various hormones which affect breeding cycles, activity levels and of course hair growth.  Have you noticed that you need to hoover more in the spring?
